Stephen Cummins
grew up after the war on the south coast of England and possessed
an all consuming interest to draw and study all around him.
He spent all
of his spare time studying the wildlife in the woods and marshes
surrounding his home, all the time honing his draughtsmanship until
the day he arrived at college in 1958.
Having graduated,
he spent the next twelve years as a contract technical illustrator
and graphic artist and moved to Cornwall in 1972. Stephen subsequently
spent many years in business management whilst painting in his spare
time. His interests, however, lay beyond the office walls.
After a scare
with a brain tumour he decided to take the plunge and turn his life-long
love of painting into his chosen profession. He admits to being
strongly influenced by artists as diverse as Robert Bateman, Ray
Harris-Ching and Arthur Maderson.
Stephen is known
for painstakingly and meticulously researching his subject, ensuring
it is technically accurate prior to putting paint to canvas. His
gift in conveying precise detail whilst retaining atmosphere, lighting
and artistic interpretation quickly brought him to the notice of
private collectors, galleries and art agents and the demand for
his work has precluded him from holding exhibitions or investigating
other markets.
His work is
featured in private collections around the world including one collection
in Spain containing 75 of his works, which must make it one of the
largest private collections of a single artist.
